If someone had told me 20 months ago that I would be returning to Alaska, I would have laughed them out of the room. And yet, here I am, it is the end of May 2025 and I am getting ready to embark on a true journey of a lifetime.
But first let me give you a little background...
Since I was a child I have been fascinated with the idea of Alaska. I cannot really remember how it happened. I just know that I saw a picture, probably in a magazine, and I was enthralled. From then on the only place that I wanted to see in the world before I died was Alaska. This was my dream.
Some 5 decades later I finally stepped foot in Alaska, in Nome to be precise. it was the beginning of my dream and I was elated. My husband and I had booked on a cruise, run by the Norwegian Company, Hurtigruten. We met the ship, the MS Fridtjof Nansen, in Nome, AK and sailed south, through the Bering Sea, around the Aleution Islands, into the Gulf of Alaska and then down the Inside Passage through British Columbia before disembarking at Vancouver, Canada. 21 days of sheer bliss, wonder, wildlife and dreams coming true. I fell in love with the Alaska I saw, all over again.
Fast forward to 2025, and I'm headed back to the Land that I crave... it is a bit of a story and will be the subject of my next post.
