Yesterday was a long day. After very little sleep, I was up at 5am to get to the airport on time. All went well until it came to boarding the plane. All passengers accounted for but we had a 45 minute delay because the crew had not arrived. When they finally started boarding us it was onto buses and a 10 minute drive to the plane.
The flight felt so long. I slep for an hour or so and spent the other 8.5 hours twiddling my thumbs.
We arrived at Seattle only 15 mins late after a very uneventful flight. At SeaTac we had to collect our cases before going to customs. This I duly did. I had just over 1 hour to get booked into my connecting flight and recheck my bags. I Got to customs and here everything went pear shaped.
Went through the questions, explaining where I was going for how long etc. they took my passport and phone and took me into a little room. There they proceeded to quiz me on my plans, who I was staying with, blah blah blah. They made me empty all my bags so I had to repack.
They then started quizzing me about Rusty,; DoB, where does he live, what does he do, how did I know him. That sort of thing. In the middle of this they switched to; what does your husband do, why isn’t here as well, does he know you are here for 10 weeks. Does he know Rusty, is he aware of your plans.
They then insisted on speaking to Rusty. So I gave them his phone number. They end, quizzed him about both myself and Andrew.
50 minutes later they handed me my stuff and told me to have a lovely time.
Now I rush to checked baggage desk and then onto security, who made me empty my hand luggage. Remove my shoes and absolutely everything. They then proceeded to do an external body search. Finally I was able to go to the Gate. Gate C18 - the full length of Seattle international Airport… the furthest but 2 Gate in the whole place. I hadn’t had time to put my shoes on, I had 10 minutes to do a 15 minute run through the crowds, barefoot.
Half way down they announced that the flight was closing and could I make my way immediately to the departure gate.
I ran like fury. I made it by the skin of my teeth, they were literally just closing the door.
Great, panic over. Settled in for the 2.5 hour flight. Got to Juneau, Rusty was there to meet me… my suitcase never made it to the flight!
Fortunately there was another flight into Juneau last night… my case arrived on that.
