Greasy Poles and bumps in the night.

One of the last activities on July 4th was the Greasy Pole. It turned out that we were docked in the only place the Pole fitted. So a group of youths came and walked, Harmony round to the Float plane Dock, and we had prime views of the Pole event.
The prize pot started at $1000 to the person who could surf the Pole and capture the flag on the end of it. People were encouraged to add to the prize pot as the event went on.
Much hilarity and many bruises ( actual and ego) later the massive prize of $4000 was won by a lad called Addison.
Here is the winning surf… well I would load the winning video but still having connection issues.
Updated to add the video
Now for bumps in the night.
The other night Rusty woke me and told me to listen. There was a whale in the harbour right by the side of the boat. We could hear it breathing and feel it moving.
Then a few nights later we heard a thump. It sounded like someone was on the boat. After a few moments we thought it was a raven that was trying to get into the bin bags. So I got up to shoo it away. I was closest to the door.
Stepped outside, turned around and came face to face with a Bald Eagle. It was literally about 2ft away from my face. We stared at each other for what seemed like hours, but was more like 30 seconds, he then gracefully flew across the water and into the trees opposite. It was amazing… although I didn’t have a camera or phone on hand to capture the moment. It was 4am in the morning.
