Today is my first experience of the celebration of American Independence Day.

Elfin Cove may be small but they still try to make it a memorable day for all visitors and residents.

The day starts with a communal free pancake breakfast.

There is a traditional parade, no floats because it is a boardwalk town with no vehicles. The kids still dress up and enjoy themselves, all the same.

Hot dog and chilli cook off are pretty self explanatory.

Now the fish toss was hilarious. Teams of 2 had to throw a fish to each other over a widening gap. Drop the fish once and you are out. The prize for the winner was 280$ (the entry fee for each person was $10)

Then came the fish head dunking. If your thinking apple bobbing, yep that the one, but with fish heads! Hilarious to watch.

We still have the pot luck dinner, the Greased Pole, the sunset and the fireworks to go.

And the outfit of the day…

He was so embarrassed to be collared for a photo by the only English Person in Elfin Cove today.
